Residents Enjoy a Virtual European Cruise Experience

Recently at Penrose Court, we embarked on an exciting virtual cruise experience, allowing our residents to reminisce about their past travels and enjoy a unique, immersive journey. Since not all of our residents can go on a cruise, we decided to bring the cruise to them!

Our journey began on Monday, 19th August, with a departure from Southampton at 3 pm. Residents had their passports checked and were ready for departure, sipping Prosecco and enjoying canapés as they got settled on the "ship." The atmosphere was filled with excitement as residents shared stories of cruises they had been on during their youth.

A Culinary Trip Around Europe

Each day of our cruise took residents to a different country, where they experienced the local flavours and culture:

• Tuesday: France – We "arrived" in France and residents sampled delicious French wines, bread, and cheeses.
• Wednesday: Spain – In Spain, residents enjoyed a feast of traditional paella paired with refreshing sangria.
• Thursday: Italy – Our Italian stop included rich coffees, various kinds of pasta, and warm garlic bread.
• Friday: Portugal – The final destination was Portugal, where we tasted Portuguese tartlets, a glass of port, and indulged in a delightful Baked Alaska made with Madeira cake.

Return to Southampton and Afternoon BBQ

On Saturday, we arrived back in Southampton and celebrated our return to Penrose Court with an afternoon of entertainment. We hosted a family BBQ to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, featuring live music from DJ Ian. Despite the typical British weather with a bit of rain, spirits were high, and everyone enjoyed the day!

This virtual cruise brought plenty of fun, laughter, and an opportunity for residents to share their travel stories and discuss the different foods they tasted. It was a wonderful way for our residents to try new things and continue doing what they love without limits.
