Despite Penrose Court having a garden of its own, there are plenty of opportunities to get outdoors in Biggleswade. With a multitude of beautiful gardens, parks and open spaces, you will never be short of outdoor activities to experience and enjoy in Biggleswade. For instance, Franklin Recreation Ground is less than a 10-minute drive from Penrose Court, and is a great place for picturesque riverside walks and even has a playground for kids of all ages.
If shopping is something that you enjoy, then you will be spoilt for choice in Biggleswade. If you like to browse through high-street shops and outlets, the A1 Retail Park, which is within a 5-minute drive from Penrose Court, offers a broad range that will be sure to tick all your boxes. Just a further 5 minute drive from here is Biggleswade Town Centre, a lively hub that boasts independent shops, cafes and pubs. It is here that Biggleswade holds its weekly markets in the square, that date all the way back to the 12th century. There is a charter market that runs on Saturdays, and a smaller weekly market that visits on Tuesdays. The markets present a perfect opportunity for those who enjoy wandering leisurely around an array of stalls, as they offer everything from fresh food and plants, to homewares, gifts and cards.
Also located just a short distance from Penrose Court is the esteemed Shuttleworth Collection. Named after Richard Shuttleworth, the collection consists of a variety of old aircraft and vehicles that he rescued in the 1930’s and brought back to the grounds of Old Warden Park to restore. Whether you’re keen to explore the extensive exhibition of aircrafts and various motors, or prefer to take a stroll round the Swiss Garden and Woodland Sculpture Trail, a day at Shuttleworth Collection is sure to provide adventure to all ages.
The history doesn’t stop there however, as Jordans Mill can be reached in 11 minutes by car, and offers everything from a tour of the historic mill, to walks and dining by the riverside. You will certainly have an exciting day here, as you can explore the museum and see the machinery that was used to make flour in the Mill that has been home to the Jordan family for more than 150 years. Once you’ve learned all about the Mill’s past and it’s stories, you can continue your time here with a bite to eat at the riverside cafe, and a walk around the food and flower gardens.
