Celebrating 70 Years of Marriage: A Special Day for Ann and Alan

This month at Penrose Court, we were honoured to celebrate an extraordinary milestone for two of our residents, Ann and Alan Griggs, who marked their 70th wedding anniversary. Surrounded by family and friends, the couple enjoyed a heartwarming day of celebration, which included a special message from His Majesty the King and Queen Consort.

Ann and Alan are originally from Windsor and have been residents at Penrose Court for some time now after moving to Biggleswade to be closer to their son, who visits them daily. The couple first met at a dance when they were just 19 years old, and they have been inseparable ever since. They remain as devoted to each other as ever, though they humbly admit they "can’t believe how long they’ve been together."

To mark the occasion, our team created a lovely, low-key celebration in keeping with their wishes. A large banner was displayed to honour the couple, and the day began with a homemade cake and afternoon tea shared in our celebration room with their son and daughter-in-law. Later, Ann and Alan raised a glass with other residents in our cosy on-site pub, sharing their joy and gratitude in the warm company of friends.

Their son made the day even more special by arranging for the couple to receive a congratulatory card from the King and Queen which they were so excited to open and read aloud. This also sparked up some conversation about other times when you get letters from the King and Queen including special birthdays!

Their anniversary celebration was a testament to the power of love, commitment, and family. It also brought a wonderful sense of celebration to the entire Penrose Court community, with residents and team members alike inspired by the Griggs’ story. Moments like these remind us of the strength of relationships and the importance of cherishing every chapter of life together.
