Our goal is to create a nurturing environment where residents can thrive.

What Does Dementia Care Mean?

Dementia is an illness that impacts mental functionality in a number of different ways but most commonly includes difficulties with speech and memory loss in older people. With the right support and care, people living with dementia can continue to live their lives to the fullest.

At our dementia care home in Biggleswade, we acknowledge that no two people are the same, some individuals will only require minor support, while others will need considerably more. When caring for our residents, our person-centred approach aims to help them preserve their independence and sense of self for as long as possible.

Our Dementia Care in Bedfordshire

Our compassionate team of specialists are trained in how to communicate effectively to help residents living with dementia express their needs and wishes. Our extensive understanding and expertise in working with people with memory loss ensure that we can offer unrivalled levels of care to those living with dementia. There is not just one solution when it comes to supporting people with dementia, this is why at Penrose Court our dementia care plans are unique to each and every person’s requirements, as well as the wants and views of their friends and family.

We’ve given great thought to how our environment affects our residents living with dementia, right down to how it’s laid out and designed. We recognise that people living with dementia may see the world differently than we do. As a result, we scrutinise every detail of our residential space from bedrooms and communal areas to colours, materials, and lighting.

Dementia Care FAQs

Prior to moving in with us at Penrose Court Care Home, we arrange for a consultation with our Home Manager and the prospective resident and their loved ones to ensure we can meet their individual needs. We collaborate with them to understand their routines, interests, and preferences which we then ensure are included in their personalised care plans. We proudly take a person-centred approach to care and it is our goal to help residents keep their independence and dignity whilst ensuring they know we are here for them whenever they need us.

We invest in the training and development of our staff and when it comes to our dementia care team, they undergo training as necessary to ensure they are kept up to date with the latest in dementia care and support. Our teams have the experience and knowledge to provide effective care to our residents with dementia, including support with activities, therapies, communication, mobility, medication management, and personal care.

At Penrose Court Care Home, we provide a varied activities programme for all of our residents which includes both group and 1:1 activities and therapies. For example, our arts & crafts sessions are held regularly and we also provide music therapy, reminiscence activities, and more. The activities and therapies we choose are designed to support the physical, cognitive, and social wellbeing of our residents, including those living with dementia.

At Penrose Court Care Home, we require a 28-day notice period for residents receiving any of our long-term care types and are looking to move out. Our compassionate team are on hand around the clock to support you with your moving transition and answer any further questions you have.
