We are excited to announce that Mary Tolladay, Manager of Penrose Court Care Home, has been named Home Manager of the Year for England. This prestigious award recognises her exceptional leadership, and she is now through to the national finals where she will be in the running for the national title.

Mary was nominated by her colleagues, a resident, and a residents relative, and she is humbled by their support. "I am just humbled that I have been nominated. It means more to me than anything," Mary shared.

Her nomination and the recognition that followed are a reflection of the trust and admiration Mary has earned from both her team and the residents she cares for. It is a testament to the warmth, leadership, and compassion that define Mary's approach to managing Penrose Court.

With over 20 years of experience in care management, Mary has been leading Penrose Court for more than three years. She is dedicated to making the home a "home from home" for residents, focusing on personalised care that brings joy to their lives. "When you get a little smile or a twinkle in their eye, it just makes your day," she says.

Mary's leadership extends beyond day-to-day management, organising a wide range of activities such as arts and crafts, pilates, and trips, as well as unique events like a summer "beach" experience and a "world cruise" with different cuisines each day. She also values residents' histories, ensuring their life stories are honoured and cherished.

This respect for the residents backgrounds helps create a deep bond between Mary and the people she cares for. At Penrose Court, everyone's life story is honoured, making the home a place where residents feel seen, heard, and valued.

Mary and her team work tirelessly to ensure that the residents enjoy a full and active lifestyle. Residents enjoy regular visits from Shetland ponies, therapy dogs, and live performers. Mary's focus on creating memorable moments and fostering a stimulating, inclusive environment makes Penrose Court a truly special place for everyone.

While Mary's individual achievements are being celebrated, she is quick to acknowledge the importance of her entire team. Mary credits her success to her colleagues: "It's my whole team that make Penrose," she says. The collaborative effort of the team plays a key role in creating a vibrant and caring environment for everyone. Her leadership style is one of collaboration, and she works closely with all staff members to ensure they have the support and resources they need to provide exceptional care to residents.

Mary will attend an industry conference in March where the national winners will be announced. We are proud of Mary's achievements and grateful to the whole team for their continued dedication. Stay tuned for updates as we cheer Mary on in the national finals!
