Augusts’ Activities

Residents Socialising and Having a Drink

We have had a busy month so far, with events in the home and out, an employee of the month, and pet therapy.

BBQ

On 5th August we took advantage of the lovely weather and held a BBQ for our residents in our private garden. Our excellent catering team put on a fantastic spread including sausages, burgers and salad. Our residents had a lovely time getting some fresh air and soaking up some vitamin D whilst sharing good conversations and laughing with each other and our members of staff.

Pub Friday

A visit to the pub is a much-loved activity amongst our residents and luckily for them, we have our very own pub on site, called the Threshers Bar. On Friday afternoon, some of our residents went to our pub and enjoyed themselves with a tipple of their choice. Our bar offers a variety of soft and alcoholic drinks, and our residents opted for wine, beer, and orange juice. Our Threshers Bar is the perfect place for our residents to get together, enjoy a drink and play some card games, all without having to leave the comfort of their own home.

Arts & Crafts Afternoon

We held an arts and crafts afternoon with lavender as one of our wonderful staff members brought in some from her recent trip to a lavender field. Our residents enjoyed making lavender bags to put in their rooms and under their pillows as lavender is known to have a calming effect and can help improve the quality of sleep. Lavender biscuits were also brought in for our residents to tuck in to whilst they carried out their crafts.

Pet Therapy

Residents were delighted to have a recent visit from chocolate labrador Cadbury, our previous cruft’s winner. Faces lit up as Cadbury came in and made his way around all the residents for a stroke and cuddle. Pets such as dogs have immense benefits for older people, as they help to improve mood, decrease feelings of sadness and anxiety, and also encourage physical activity. It's safe to say our residents always feel happy when we welcome animals into the home and we look forward to inviting some more furry friends soon.

Our Employee of the Month

We are delighted to announce that our employee of the month for July goes to our Care Assistant, Ann Stevens who shows dedication and compassion in her role every single day. This recognition is truly deserved and what's more, is that Ann has now been promoted to Senior Care Assisatnt. Congratulations Ann!

Upcoming Events

The fun isn't over just yet as we still have lots of upcoming events for the rest of August and beyond, including a sing-along session to Cliff Richard's 'Summer Holiday', bringing the beach to Penrose Court, another BBQ in September, and Harvest Festival in October.

If you would like to find out more about the activities programme at Penrose Court, then please get in touch and one of our friendly team members will be happy to answer any of your queries.
