Private Garden

Sometimes, there really is nothing better than taking a turn around the garden. Our carefully designed outdoor spaces are not only picturesque but also fully accessible, with flat pathways that can be easily navigated by wheelchair or mobility aid. When the days are warmer and longer, our private, enclosed garden is a terrific area for our residents to visit with their loved ones, take a stroll around the grounds, and enjoy the sunshine.

If you want to get closer to nature, go for a walk, or simply relax with a cup of tea (or a beverage of your choice) and some home-baked treats, our extensive, picturesque garden and grounds are the perfect spot to visit whenever you feel like it, with or without your friends and family in tow.

We’ll encourage and support all of our residents to get as involved as they want to in a range of garden projects, so whether they’re seasoned gardener or just getting started with their green thumb adventure, there’ll be plenty of room in our private garden for them to do more of what they enjoy.

Keeping Connected With Activities

Our residents should never feel like they have to hold back. In fact, we want them all to get involved in as many outdoor activities in our care homes’ garden, from planting new crops to tending to those that have already begun to blossom. We recently held a vibrant ‘garden in bloom’ competition and our residents played an important role in shaping their environment by choosing which flowers to grow and even selecting the colours of the pathways.

Outdoor activities are a common favourite when the weather allows and the garden’s accessibility means everyone can join in, whatever their mobility needs. Our team offers advanced notice of any outdoor activities and provides weekly planners, ensuring everyone feels comfortable and included. Loved ones are always welcome to participate in gardening days, strolls, or just to enjoy time together with their loved ones.

No matter your background or your interest in gardening, our secure gardens at Penrose Court have something for everyone. Whether that’s getting your hands dirty, relaxing with loved ones, or simply enjoying a peaceful moment in a truly accessible, uplifting outdoor space.

Maintaining Well-Being Through Nature & Dining

With numerous rest areas dotted throughout, our garden is the perfect place to slow down, unwind and reconnect with nature. Residents can stroll along the bright, flower-filled paths or relax on a bench with a good book or a companion. The sounds of birds and the sight of local wildlife add tranquillity and interest in every season.

We are committed to making the most of outdoor living, regularly offering al fresco dining so residents can enjoy their meals surrounded by the scents and colours of the garden. Many find they eat more and feel more content dining this way. Going forward, we’re excited to develop even more sensory elements in the garden, offering a variety of experiences and new ways to enjoy the outdoors beyond different smells and colours.

Private Garden FAQs

We believe that providing our residents with the chance to get outside regularly, take in the fresh air, engage in outdoor activities, and enjoy the natural world is extremely important for overall wellbeing. Being outdoors has many mental and physical benefits such as lowering stress and anxiety, improving overall mood, supporting cognitive function, and improving cardiovascular health, balance, and muscle strength.

We hold many of our activities outdoors including walking, gardening, lawn games, and chair exercises, and when the weather permits, residents can dine with family and friends, get involved in outdoor arts & crafts, and enjoy live entertainment.

In order to make our gardens accessible to all, we have included wheelchair-accessible paths and seated furniture for those who experience issues with mobility. Our private garden is also safe and secure with proper fencing and gates, to prevent residents from going beyond the garden walls. Our walking routes are well-maintained and there is also lighting and other safety features to help prevent falls or other accidents.
