At Penrose Court, we are dedicated to helping residents fill each day with purpose, connection, and enjoyment. Our passionate activities team works closely with residents to create a varied and inclusive programme that offers opportunities for everyone, whether it’s exploring in our beautiful garden, making something special in arts and crafts, venturing into Biggleswade’s vibrant market town centre or simply spending quality time with family in our welcoming home.

We believe it is important to offer residents a varied activities programme and our Activity Coordinators take great consideration in planning a variety of new, fun, and inclusive activities for our residents to participate in. Although we have our own transport to take residents from one excursion to the next, Penrose Court is in such a terrific position that if family members wanted to join in the fun, there are plenty of great transport options nearby, so nobody is ever left behind.

There’s never a dull moment when staying with us at Penrose Court, whether you want to focus on staying active or you want to spend your days truly channelling your creativity. We think that no two days should be the same, and we want nothing more than to make that a reality for our residents and their loved ones who spend their days with us.

We pride ourselves on offering a rich calendar of activities shaped by what our residents love to do most. Weekly Pilates keeps everyone moving, while arts and crafts sessions spark creativity and camaraderie. Outdoor games like bowls and ring toss are regular highlights for the summer months. Two of our residents even take the lead in organising their own quizzes, one covering a range of topics and the other focusing on true or false questions, which always brings laughter and a sense of shared achievement.

Our Home is Your Home

Simply because our residents have decided to move and join us at Penrose Court, doesn’t mean they should undergo a significant shift in the way in which they live their lives. We want our residents to be able to continue to live their lives their way, and all of our activities have been structured in a way so as not to get in the way of that. When we have entertainers visit us, we always get feedback from residents before booking them in again.

We know that every resident is unique and has their own pace and preferences, which is why assistance is always on offer for those who need a hand getting involved. For residents who are bed-bound or have complex needs, we provide meaningful one-to-one sessions, ranging from hymn reads and hand massages to personalised conversations that make each person feel valued and connected.

With a varied activities and entertainment programme, in addition to regular outings and events, every day can be enjoyed to the full. All of our activities are scheduled on a daily basis, ensuring that our residents and their loved ones never have the same day twice. We adjust our schedule as often as possible so that everyone in our community can look forward to something new and exciting every day.

We are delighted to offer a diverse range of activities and opportunities. From planned day trips that include shopping and dining, to activities that don’t even require you to leave the comfort of your own home, there’s something for everyone.

Residents and visiting family and friends can find plenty of things to do in Biggleswade; whether it is out shopping at big outlet shops and farmers markets or visiting the multitude of beautiful gardens and parks, you’ll certainly always have an exciting day ahead.

We also have a plethora of books, magazines, and craft supplies on hand just for when inspiration strikes. Quizzes and jigsaw puzzles are often also available if you’re looking for a mentally engaging afternoon. If you’re looking for something more sociable however, we’ve hosted wine and cheese evenings, as well as fantastic coffee mornings and afternoon teas.

We organise so many events and activities for our residents because we don’t believe that a change of place equates to a change of heart. We understand that it isn’t easy for residents to make the move into a care home and we want to alleviate as much stress from our residents as we can.

If we can provide at least a minute of stability in the midst of our residents’ busy lives, we will have made a significant step forward. We organise so many events and activities because we don’t want any of residents to feel as though they can’t continue doing the things they love.
