A Fascinating Visit from ZooLab at Penrose Court

Residents at Penrose Court Care Home recently enjoyed a truly unique and engaging experience as we welcomed Sarah from ZooLab for a special educational and therapeutic animal session. The visit brought curiosity, conversation, and even a touch of bravery to the home as residents met a variety of fascinating creatures up close.
Sarah delivered an informative and interactive talk, sharing interesting facts about each animal and discussing important aspects of animal welfare. Residents were intrigued to learn about the different species, including some of the common myths and legends that surround them. The session offered not only entertainment but also an opportunity to expand knowledge and challenge perceptions.

Among the animals introduced were a snake, a snail, and a spider, along with other small creatures. Residents were given the opportunity to gently hold or interact with the animals if they wished. For some, this meant stepping slightly outside their comfort zone, but the supportive atmosphere encouraged confidence and plenty of smiles. Watching residents encourage one another added to the sense of shared achievement.
The experience sparked lively discussion, with many residents reminiscing about past encounters with animals or sharing stories from their younger years. Others simply enjoyed observing the creatures and listening to Sarah’s explanations. The session provided valuable sensory stimulation and encouraged meaningful engagement for everyone involved.

Animal therapy sessions like this can offer significant wellbeing benefits. They promote social interaction, stimulate conversation, and provide opportunities for residents to try something new in a safe and supported environment. It was heartening to see how much enjoyment and interest the visit generated across the home.
We would like to thank Sarah from ZooLab for delivering such an engaging and memorable session. The afternoon was filled with curiosity, laughter, and shared experiences, and it is certainly one that residents will be talking about for some time.
At Penrose Court, we are always looking for enriching activities that support wellbeing and bring new experiences to our residents. This fascinating visit was enjoyed by all who attended and is a wonderful example of how learning and fun go hand in hand.
