Our Activities Programme this August
At our care home in Biggleswade, we have had an August that has been jam-packed full of activities and events for our residents.
Lavender Crafts
One of our staff members took a recent visit to the lavender gardens in Hitchin and brought back some wonderful lavender stems for our residents.
The residents had the brilliant idea of making them into lavender bags which formed our upcoming arts and crafts session. This was a great sensory experience for our residents as well as providing them with self-achievement.
A Trip to the Sunflower Fields
Some of our residents visited the local sunflower field, which is conveniently located just a 10-minute walk from our care home in Biggleswade.
The residents loved being out in the fresh air, seeing how tall the sunflowers have grown and just being beside nature. Vitamin D and fresh air have such a positive impact on people's moods, and it's clear that this trip left our residents beaming.
Canine Partners
We had the pleasure of welcoming a demonstration from the Canine Partners who showed us the many ways that their loving dogs support their owners with disabilities.
It was extremely interesting for us to learn about the dogs' clever support techniques and it also brought therapy for many of our residents, as our demonstration dog, Pyke, was full of affection, especially loving a rub on her belly.
Penrose Court Choir
Our choir here at Penrose Court Care Home continues to go from strength to strength. Phil has been amazing and a show is being planned for mid-September so our residents can show off their talents to their relatives.
Biggleswade Bus Trips
One of our residents suggested that they go on the 190 bus around Biggleswade. Our residents, along with our staff and volunteer Jackie, hopped on the bus at King’s Reach Square and had a tour of the local villages, Sutton, Potton, Gamlingay, and Sandy.
They thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and it brought back many memories for those of the residents who had grown up in the local area. Our residents also got chatting with the other passengers and the bus driver, to who we would like to say a big thank you.
Pony Visits & Enjoying our Gardens
We had a wonderful day in the sun recently, which was made even better by the visit from the lovely Shetland ponies Romeo and Pickles, and the local ice cream van.
The ponies visited our residents in their rooms as well as in the gardens, meaning that everyone was able to meet them and spend some time with them.
The ice cream van then arrived at 3pm, and residents were able to top their lovely day off with a 99 in the sun. We have managed to capture a few good days of sunshine and our residents have enjoyed sitting outside in the fresh air, socialising and enjoying ice creams.
Tim's Big Quiz
Tim hosted his big quiz which gave our residents a lot of joy and laughter. The residents worked together to answer the questions and solve the answers, which was a great stimulating exercise.
Employees of the Month
We had our employees of the month, and we would like to say a massive well done for their hard work, Joby and Adrian.
At Penrose Court Care Home it is important to us that not only do we provide the highest standards of care, but we also support our residents with their overall wellbeing, and ensure that both they and our staff are fully involved with life at our care home. Through planned activities and trips, we can support our residents in living a varied, meaningful lifestyle, as well as fostering the relationships between them and our team.
