Introducing Our Weekly Mini Athletics Sessions

We are delighted to share that we have recently introduced weekly mini athletics sessions into our activities programme at Penrose Court, and to make it even better, we have invited some small friends along! Every Monday at 10am, our home welcomes a local toddler gymnastics group for a fun and interactive session encouraging movement, connection, and joy.

This fantastic initiative was introduced by Seb, the leader of the mini athletics group, who was looking for a space to run his toddler exercise classes. When he reached out to us, we immediately saw the potential for something special and a wonderful opportunity to create meaningful interactions between young children and our residents. Now, each week, Penrose Court is filled with the laughter and energy of little ones as they engage in gentle exercise alongside their parents and our residents, under Seb’s guidance.

The sessions are simple yet effective. The toddlers, accompanied by their parents, enjoy a range of age-appropriate exercises, from stretching and balancing to fun, playful movements. While they go through their routines, our residents can watch, encourage, and even join in where they feel comfortable. The beauty of these sessions isn’t just in the activity itself but in the spontaneous moments of connection that arise. Whether it’s a resident offering a high-five, a child stopping to hold a hand, or shared smiles and laughter, the sessions have already become a highlight of the week.

Bringing different generations together in this way and offering a variety of activities to take part in is incredibly beneficial for everyone involved. For our residents, it provides a wonderful sense of joy, purpose, and engagement. The presence of young children is known to lift spirits, reduce feelings of loneliness, and encourage gentle movement, which is vital for well-being. Many of our residents have shared fond memories of raising their children, and these sessions provide a lovely opportunity to relive those moments while forming new connections.

Interacting with our residents helps the children build confidence, social skills, and an understanding of the world beyond their immediate family. Parents have also commented on how lovely it is to see their children bonding with older adults and learning patience, kindness, and empathy in a natural and enjoyable way.

This new mini athletics group is just the start of a wonderful range of activities we plan to hold here at Penrose Court this year and beyond!
