Garden Competition Brings Joy to Residents at Penrose Court

At Penrose Court Care Home in Biggleswade, we’ve been celebrating the arrival of brighter days with a burst of colour and creativity thanks to our very own Garden in Bloom competition.

Over the last few months, our residents - along with their families - have been busy planting a wide range of flowers in our gardens and balconies. From cheerful sunflowers to elegant hydrangeas, everyone brought their own ideas and favourite blooms to life, transforming our outdoor spaces into something truly special.

The competition gave residents the opportunity to reconnect with nature, spend time outdoors, and indulge in a bit of friendly rivalry. Gardening is something many of our residents have always enjoyed, so this was a lovely way to keep that passion alive while encouraging gentle activity and social connection.

Staff, residents, and visiting relatives were invited to vote for their favourite floral displays. It was no easy task with such stunning efforts on show, but one balcony garden in particular stood out. Our winner received a prize for her beautiful display and green-fingered dedication. Her balcony on the first floor has become a peaceful retreat filled with colour, life, and joy - and a source of inspiration for others in the home.

This event was more than just a competition. It encouraged time spent in the fresh air, boosted wellbeing, and brought smiles to everyone involved. The joy of seeing plants grow, nurturing them, and sharing that pride with others is something truly special.

We look forward to more seasonal gardening activities as the year goes on - and who knows, perhaps another competition or two!

If you’d like to find out more about life at Penrose Court and the wide range of meaningful activities we offer, speak to our friendly team or book a visit – we’d love to show you around.
