Adopting Change To Our Dementia Environment

At Penrose Court, our Dementia environments have been undergoing change to ensure that residents can engage with a variety of activities available to them.

We have changed areas in the corridor, making one area The Sunshine Café, (a name chosen by our residents). The end of a corridor has become a Saxon indoor garden with birds singing in the background. The other end of the corridor is Saxon’s nursery area.

Our pub has been moved into a larger room, with a pool table, a more comfortable seating area, dart board and TV so sports can be watched, of which our residents are keen watchers of football and rugby, of which they cannot wait for the Euros to kick off in June.

And our old pub has been turned into a new quiet room, with a projector to show the Northern lights. This room now has a calming, ambient atmosphere, ideal for residents to relax and take in the surroundings.

The Effects Of Our Changes

We have adopted these changes within our home to create a safe and engaging atmosphere for our residents with dementia. Our activities team have lined up a range of activities for residents to get involved in, with the aim of encouraging reminiscence and supporting to improve moods, self-esteem, and overall wellbeing.

The feedback has been great so far, with residents enjoying themselves throughout our dementia community. With some great feedback from loved ones too.
