Feel Good January

residents on a trip to M&S

At Penrose Court Care Home, we know that January can sometimes leave some people feeling blue after the excitement of Christmas and the often miserable weather.

Our activities team have done a great job of making what could've been a dull month, a rather fun January which has left residents feeling good. From pet therapy to days out in the local community, here is what the residents of Penrose Court Care Home got up to this month.

Puppy Visits

Our residents were delighted when they received visits from both Oscar and Loki this month, two very adorable puppies who bought a smile to our residents and staff members faces. Oscar and Loki were both very affectionate, giving residents lots of cuddles and allowing them to stroke and pet them.

Visits from animals, such as dogs, have such a positive impact on our residents. Pet therapy is great for older people as it is very calming for them and helps alleviate feelings of loneliness and anxiety, as well as provides companionship and support reminiscence. Our residents enjoy every minute they have with animals like Oscar and Loki, and we look forward to welcoming more furry friends soon.

Pamper Mornings

Residents enjoyed a post-Christmas pamper that helped them feel fresh and ready for the new year. with thanks to our in-house hairdressers and beauty salon, we are well equipped to provide a variety of beauty and wellbeing services to our residents.

Both our male and female residents enjoyed a pamper, which included hand and nail treatments. For many of our residents, having access to these services is important to them as it's something they like to include in their regular routine.

For others, it is a chance to sit back, unwind and enjoy some relaxation. Our salon team are fantastic at making our residents feel comfortable and for those who are unable to visit the salon, they take their services to them.

Jenga Games

Games are a brilliant way to keep residents stimulated and it offers a chance for them to be sociable with one another and to have some fun. We partake in lots of puzzles and games here at Penrose Court, from crosswords and quizzes, to jigsaws and board games.

Our residents have recently enjoyed playing Jenga, a great game that takes a lot of focus and hand-eye coordination and lots of laughter when the bricks eventually fall.

M&S Trip

We had the first of many trips out for this year when a few of our residents had the pleasure of visiting the Marks & Spencer in Biggleswade for a spot of shopping and a well-earned break in the café.

It was great to get wrapped up warm and go out for the day, just like some of our and we would like to thank the café staff for a wonderful experience.

It's important for us that we enable our residents to continue to do the things they love, whether that's through activities or by just enabling them to keep up with their daily routine. At Penrose Court Care Home, we want to support our residents in living independently, whilst reassuring them that we are here for them at all times.
